Danish star Caroline Wozniacki opened her campaign in TEB BNP Paribas İstanbul Cup with a stylish win.
Top seed Caroline Wozniacki defeated Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 6-2 in Garanti Koza Arena as safely through to next round. World number two served well to ousting no. 102 ranked opponent from Chelyabinsk, extended her streak to five matches in Istanbul tournament. Wozniacki will next play Sara Errani or Kirsten Flipkens.
Spectators dearest Cagla Buyukakcay made an appearance in centre court in Tuesday fixture. Backed by the crowd passionately, Cagla lost to diminutive Greek player Maria Sakkari, who also knocked out her from Australian Open 2016 qualies. Despite trailing 5-3 in the first set, Sakkari took four games in a row to closed out first set, 7-5.
Greek number one made a difference immediately at the beginning of the second set as broke Cagla’s serve once again, to led 3-0. Cagla tried to give some response, but missed five out of five chances to break Sakkari’s serve in second set. After one hour 40 minutes, Sakkari won 7-5, 6-2 to advanced second round while she notched first clay court win of the season.
Earlier of the day, Turkish wild-card Ayla Aksu lost to Frenchwoman Pauline Parmentier 6-2, 6-2 as qualifiers Danka Kovinic and Arantxa Rus also made through to second round by straight set wins.
Former champion Agnieszka Radwanska also went out of the competition. Polish number three seed had a poor start against Donna Vekic, eventually could not completed the match because of the back injury. Vekic is through to next round by 6-1, 2-0 retired.
