The entry list of TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, which will take place between 18-24 April, has been revealed. According to the list, two former world no.1 Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki will take part alongside the defending champion Lesia Tsurenko.
Azarenka, the runner-up of the 2011 WTA Championships in Istanbul, will appear for the first time at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup. Alongside the two time Grand Slam champion, another former WTA leader Caroline Wozniacki will salute Turkish tennis fans again. Caro, whose participation in the tournament is announced through hologram technology during the launch meeting of the event, captured the Istanbul title beating Roberta Vinci in final two years ago.
Slovakian rising star Anna Karolina Schmiedlova is also to compete in on Garanti Koza Arena. Having won two WTA titles in 2015, 21-year-old Schmiedlova reached 30th spot in WTA rankings and became her country’s the top ranked player. Defending champ Lesia Tusurenko, who lifted her first WTA trophy last year defeating Urszula Radwanska 7-5, 6-1, wants to relive these amazing moments in Istanbul. Maintained her great form after TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup as well, the 36th ranked Tsurenko will fight to defend her title.
Previous year’s semifinalist Kirsten Flipkens and quarterfinalists Camila Giorgi and Kateryna Bondarenko are also in the participating players list of TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup which return to clay surface this season. Last player of the main draw entry list, where 21 players are registered in so far, is world number 81 Hsieh Su-Wei.
