26 year old Ukrainian player Lesia Tsurenko, winning her first title in WTA, won the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup championship.
In the last day at Garanti Koza Arena World no. 71 Tsurenko faced World no. 99 Radwanska in the final match of singles.
The first set of the match was very competitive. Breaking her opponent’s serve three times, Tsurenko won the set that lasted 56 minutes, 7-5.
Tsurenko kept playing well in the second set so that she took the early lead: 4-0 and she became the winner with 6-1 in the second set. The final lasted for 1 hour and 32 minutes.
After taking their trophies, Tsurenko and Radwanska won respectively $43,000 and $21,000 as their prize moneys at the trophy ceremony that took place at Garanti Koza Arena.
During the press conference that was set after the match, Tsurenko answered the questions for the media. Tsurenko said: “Istanbul brought me good luck. I had previously won an ITF tournament and now I won a WTA tournament. Istanbul is a luck city for me.”
Polish Radwanska Polonyalı said that she was not lucky enough in the first set and added that her opponent played well in the second set; she felt tiredness and this forced her to make too many unforced errors.
