Ending her two-and-a-half-year championship drought in Brisbane at the beginning of the season, Victoria Azarenka claimed another huge victory in Indian Wells. Former world no.1 stunned current world no.1 Serena Williams 6-4, 6-4 in the final to lift the BNP Paribas Open trophy four years later again as she took her 19th WTA Tour title.

Vika who earned the break in the opening game, maintained this advantage to finish off the first set 6-4. Belarusian star made a very quick start to the second set, leading 4-0 and 5-1 respectively. At this point, Serena scored three consecutive games but Azarenka didn’t let her to seal the comeback.

Breaking her opponent at the last game of the match for 6-4, Azarenka managed to complete the final in 1 hour and 28 minutes. Vika who defended 11 of 12 break points, made a return to top 10 following this splendid success.

Azarenka also snapped the 5-match losing streak against Williams and improved their new match record to 4-17. 1999 and 2001 champ Serena Williams, who returned to the prestigious Premier Mandatory level tournament, finished runner-up for the second time this year.
