Experienced French Pauline Parmentier advanced to the second round of TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup easing past wildcarded Ayla Aksu.

Pauline Parmentier, who was on national duty for France against USA last weekend at Fed Cup, overcame Turkey’s wildcard player Ayla Aksu in her Istanbul opener. 32-year-old was victorious in straight-sets 6-2, 6-2 breaking Aksu’s serve seven times throughout the match.

Parmentier will face Yulia Putintseva in the next round. World no. 83 Putintseva defeated sixth seed Sorana Cirstea despite getting bageled in the first set. It was an interesting scoreline as the Kazakh grabbed a 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory to level their head-to-head 2-2.

It was no. 7 seed Irina-Camelia Begu who was crowned as the winner in the opening match of the Center Court Garanti Koza Park. Last year’s semi-finalist Begu saved four set points in the first set to defeat qualifier Dalila Jakupovic 7-5, 6-0. She will next play Christina McHale.
