The main draw ceremony of TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup took place with the attendances of defending champion Cagla Buyukakcay, former top 10 player Andrea Petkovic, Ukranian young talent Dayana Yastremska alongside the President of Turkish Tenis Federation Cengiz Durmus, General Director of Koza WOS Yavuz Selek, Tournament Director Paul McNamee and Tournament Supervisor Cristina Romeo. On the day of 23 April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, it was the kids who decide the matchups as they drew lots.

Buyukakcay, who defeated Danka Kovinic in last year’s final to capture the biggest victory in Turkish tennis history, will start her title defence against Maryna Zanevska of Belgium. Other locals starring in the main draw, Ipek Soylu to take on Sara Sorribes Tormo as Ayla Aksu to play a qualifier.

Top two seeds Elina Svitolina (world no. 13) and Timea Babos (world no. 30) both are handed qualifiers in their openers. Third seed Irina-Camelia Begu to compete against Tatjana Maria while 2014 Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard will face Jana Cepelova.

Danka Kovinic, who finished as runner-up both in singles and doubles last year, will have the rematch with Maria Sakkari, whom she knocked out in the quarterfinals of 2016 Istanbul Cup. Former world no. 9 Andrea Petkovic begins her Istanbul adventure against wildcard player Dayana Yastremska, while 2012 French Open runner-up Sara Errani meets Hsieh Su-Wei in the first round.

Defending champion (w/Andreea Mitu) Ipek Soylu partnering with former doubles world no. 1 Hsieh Su-Wei as they are listed as the top seed in Istanbul. Second seeds to compete on Garanti Koza Arena are Poland’s Paula Kania and Argentina’s Maria Irigoyen.

2015 runner-up (w/Jelena Jankovic) Cagla Buyukakcay will unite forces with Timea Babos as Pemra Ozgen/Melis Sezer and Ayla Aksu/Dayana Yastremska duos will be contesting thanks to wildcards given. Tennis fans will also have the chance to watch Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard cooperating alongside Kirsten Flipkens.
