Returning to top 10 for the first time since August 2014 after defeating Serena Williams in the final to capture Indian Wells title, Victoria Azarenka continues strong form at the Miami Open. Belarusian star keeps alive her hopes of becoming the first player since Kim Clijsters in 2005 to complete the Indian Wells-Miami double as she beats world no.4 Garbine Muguruza 7-6(6) 7-6(4) to advance to the quarterfinals.
Azarenka, a two-time Miami Open champion (2009, 2011), saved two set points in the first set tie-break at 4/6 before winning four straight points to reach 8/6. In the second, Muguruza’s comeback wasn’t enough to take it to a decider. Despite couldn’t finish the match while leading 5-2 and having two match points, Vika prolonged the encounter a bit further but was still get the job done after another tie-break.
It took 2 hours and 11 minutes for Azarenka’s 19th win out of 20 matches this season which sent her to the last eight. She will next face Johanna Konta of Great Britain.
