Turkey’s no.1 Cagla Buyukakcay has been on an impressive rise which is visible through her results in the recent period.
Becoming the first ever Turk to reach third round of a WTA Premier 5 event at the Qatar Total Open in the last week of February where she had her career-best win over defending champ and world no.12 Lucie Safarova, Cagla continued the solid performance the following week in Malaysia.
26-year-old Buyukakcay, who made her maiden tour-level quarterfinal in Malaysian Open two years ago, repeated this success before falling to Eugenie Bouchard and moved to 120th spot gaining a total of 165 points in two weeks.
2015 TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Open doubles finalist – partnering Jelena Jankovic – Cagla will next compete at the Miami Open, one of the most challenging tournaments of the WTA Tour.
