Turkish National tennis player Çağla Büyükakçay and her partner former World no. 1 Jelena Jankovic moved to final in TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup.
Starting the match fast and agresive, Jelena-Çağla won the first set in 27 minutes 6-3 by breaking their opponents’ serves twice.
In the second set, everythingbecame reversed. Kontaveir-Kulichkova was more dominant and won the set 6-2 to carry the match to the match tie-break.
First time playing together, Çağla and Jankovic moved to the final after 67 minutes by winning the match tie-break 10-6.
In the 8th year of TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, Çağla Büyükakçay became the first Turkish finalist and proceeded to her second WTA final.
At 2 pm, they will play against Russian Daria Gavrilova and Ukrainian Svitolina at Garanti Koza Arena Center Court. Çağla Büyükakçay-Jelena Jankovic answered the question for the media and demanded the support of the audience for tomorrow’s match. Jankovic said: “I will be partners with a Turkish player in Turkey, if there are more fans tomorrow, it will be a hige motivation for us.” Çağla added: “This will be my second WTA final and this time I want to become the champion. I played in front of 8 thousand people. People were not making and noise when we won the point; however, they were going crazy when our opponents won the point. We would like to see same kind of support tomorrow because it will very efficient.”
