TURKISH TRAILBLAZER MARCHES ON

Playing the most successful tournament of her career, Cagla Buyukakcay delighted the crowd by making semi-finals at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup.

Having never won any singles match in Istanbul before this year, the 26-year old booked her spot in semi-finals, defeating 6th seed Nao Hibino 6-1, 6-2 in quarter-finals.

After making a great start to the battle in Garanti Koza Arena, Cagla took first set, in which she broke three time her opponent. Having keeped her level in second set, she hit 20 winner to 14 in whole match. Cagla, who won 75 % of her first serve points, has never dropped any sets in the tournament so far. In total points won, Turkish number 1 led by 60-31.

After her two quarter-finals in Kuala Lumpur, Cagla made her first semi-final in any WTA event and improved her own record.

Ranked no.108 at the beginning of the week, Cagla probably set a new career high in WTA ranking. Even if she lost in the next round, she is projected to rise up to no.106.
