Three seeded players including No. 1 Elina Svitolina have reached to semi final stage after hard-fought battles in long lasting day five. 

Garanti Koza Arena spotlights turned off after midnight in conclusion of TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup day five. It’s one of the longest days of the tournament history, which have been concluded in 00:43. Three of four singles quarter final lasted more than two and a half hours as three seeded players have gone through to semi finals.

In the first match of the day, Başak Eraydın lost to Irina-Camelia Begu in a close battle, which Romanian won 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 in 2 hours 45 mins. Begu nearly off the tournament in a moment – 5/5 at tie-break, took full control in the final set over 257-ranked qualifier Eraydın.

Another Turkish hope Çağla Büyükakçay also lost in quarters with a three-setter. Defending champ sealed the second set against Elise Mertens, but eventually felt down 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. Mertens reached second semi final of the year in WTA Tour.

Slovakian Jana Cepelova became only non-seeded member of semi final line-up after beating 16-year old wild-card Dayana Yastremska 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 in 2 hours 43 minutes. Typical clay-courter Cepelova came back from 2-5 down in the second set.

In the last singles encounter was between Elina Svitolina and Sorana Cirstea. Ukrainian No.1 seed topped the Romanian rival in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to get a ticket for a semis. Svitolina, former doubles champion here, is looking to singles crown in sunday.
