5th seed Danka Kovinic booked her spot in the TEB BNP Paribas İstanbul Cup semifinals after a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over qualifier Maria Sakkari.

World no.127 Sakkari, who knocked out top seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the opening round, made an impressive start as she lost only four points on her serve to complete the first set 6-1.

However the momentum changed quickly. Playing more aggressive with less errors, Kovinic started to dictate the game and answered the young Greek with the same scoreline, 6-1.

21-year-old Montenegrin was again too strong for Sakkari in third. After just a minute over two hours and saving 8 of 11 break points, Kovinic completed the strong comeback with 6-2.

Next up for Kovinic is Kateryna Kozlova. Currently ranked 129th, the Ukranian reached maiden WTA semi-final destroying Anastasija Sevastova 6-2, 6-3.
