Majority of the seeded players at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup qualifying tournaments advanced to the next round after first day. 

Some of the touring ladies of WTA Tour have ousted at the sunny opening day in Istanbul. Leading players in qualies draw, including 2016 singles finalist Danka Kovinic, through to the next stage.

First match in Centre court was played between Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo and Turkish number two Başak Eraydın. Eraydın, who’s sensation of the last year’s event, has lost to Sorribes in pair of tight sets, 6-4 and 7-5. 24 year old Turkishwoman reached two set points at 5-4 in the second set, but did not capitalized.  132-ranked Sorribes closed out the match in two hours and 10 minutes to arranged second qualifying round clash against the Russian Anna Kalinskaya.

Other Turkish wild-card entrant in qualies, Melis Sezer also eliminated from the event in opening day. Sezer missed some chances at the court against Richel Hogenkamp of Netherlands, who won the match 6-4 and 7-6 in 84 minutes. Hogenkamp, who’s top seed of the qualies, will play to Bulgarian Viktoria Tomova for the berth of main draw.

2017 Istanbul Cup doubles winner Dalila Jakupovic also made through to next round. The Slovene outclassed to 20-year old Rumanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse by 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Former finalist Danka Kovinic breezed past to young Aussie wild-card Kimberly Birrell 6-3, 6-4 at the Centre court. Montenegrin player hits 9 ace and saved 16 of 18 break points against 19-year old Aussie, who defeated her previously in Hobart WTA tournament.
