Main draw action has begun at the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup with three singles matches played on day 1. Rebecca Peterson got the better off home-crowd favorite Pemra Ozgen as No. 6 seed Petra Martic was victorious in three sets.
Ranked 65th in the world, Peterson needed 1 hour and 36 minutes to defeat 32-year-old wildcard Ozgen 6-1, 2-6, 6-0. She will next play top seed Carla Suarez Navarro or Lara Arruabarrena for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Martic overcame a slow start to defeat Tamara Zidansek 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 meanwhile Margarita Gasparyan won the second longest match this season so far over Johanna Larsson 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 after 3 hours and 10 minutes.
