The draw is set for the TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup, which is being held for the 12th time at the Spor Toto Tennis Park between 22-28 April. Home-crowd favorites Cagla Buyukakcay and Pemra Ozgen are granted wildcards as world no. 27 Carla Suarez Navarro placed as the top seed.
2016 champion Buyukakcay, who has clinched the biggest title in Turkish tennis history and the only woman competed in all editions of the event, will face former world no. 2 and two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova. Meanwhile 32-year-old Ozgen to play Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson.
Former Top 10 player Carla Suarez Navarro, who’s set to make her Istanbul Cup debut, will meet fellow Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena, as No. 2 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu opens against a qualifier. Defending champion Pauline Parmentier of France takes on Evgeniya Rodina in the first round.
