TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup champion Cagla Buyukakcay had an emotional press conference. ‘I can’t express my feelings at the moment. This is the happiest day of my life’ says the Turkish star regarding her maiden title.

26-year-old Cagla Buyukakcay, 2016 TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup champion, shared her delightment with the press. Welcomed with the applauses of the journalists, Buyukakcay said “I can’t express my feelings at the moment. Actually I was feeling kinda shocked after yesterday’s match. Today I felt more comfortable. But closer to the end I was really excited.”

Buyukakcay, who made her Istanbul Cup debut at the age of 15, answered the question regarding the last game where she completed on her fifth match point: “At that moment I was feeling like I’ve never played tennis before. I was shaking completely. But then I realized that the match is going on. Even if I lost, the match would continue. That’s why I thought point by point.”

Turkey’s first-ever WTA singles champion stated “Through out the week, serves helped me a lot. Especially on break points and second set, I had a good serving performance. Danka is a player who tries to get every ball, and never gives up. She returned nearly all my serves. I needed at least 5-6 shots to conclude the points. Wasn’t easy at all.”

Cagla Buyukakcay is projected to rise to no.82 in the updated WTA singles rankings. She also added that she withdraws from her next stop Rabat due to fatigue and also wants to savour this triumph.
